Sporting Events Selection
Swiss Gardens sporting events selection policy
We have recently had a number of queries about how we select children to represent the school at sporting events. We recognise that it is vital to children’s self-esteem and confidence to be selected for activities outside of the classroom. Most of these events involve other schools and are played at a competitive level, therefore although we do ask children whether they would like to compete, we do not want children to be put in situations where they are out of their depth. We do also try to organise matches to involve children who are developing their skills, to encourage participation. Children are selected for events for a number of reasons and we will always reserve the right to stand by our decisions in this respect.
Since September, Swiss Gardens have taken part in over thirty events out of school, involving more children than ever before. We keep records of the children that have attended fixtures outside of school, in order to make sure we are as fair as possible when selecting teams. Whilst we understand that this may disappoint some children, we will always provide opportunities for all children to play competitively within school during PE, playing house and class tournaments.
