PSHE AT SWISS GARDENS
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) education at Swiss Gardens offers a range of learning opportunities and experiences which reflect our children’s increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase. It builds on the skills that pupils started to acquire during the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety, including online. PSHE education develops the knowledge, skills and attributes our children need to manage their lives, both now and in the future.
We cover the three core themes of:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Relationships
- Living in the Wider World
Relationships Education for primary age children has been statutory since September 2020, and we have developed a comprehensive, spiral curriculum which covers all aspects of the statutory requirements. We are committed to relationships education which is taught by staff who have regular access to training, and is supplemented by expert visitors. We work in partnership with parents and carers so that they know what their children will be learning and when. We deliver lessons where children feel safe, and we use a range of teaching approaches to develop critical thinking and relationships skills. We promote safe, equal, caring relationships and we discuss age-appropriate issues including friendships, healthy relationships, consent, abuse and safe relationships online.
We are committed to equality and challenge all forms of discrimination, both in PSHE lessons and in every day school life. We meet the needs of all children, regardless of their experiences or special educational needs and disabilities. We encourage our children to reflect on values and influences, nurturing respect for different cultures and faiths and how these might shape their attitudes to relationships.
