RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT SWISS GARDENS
At Swiss Gardens we believe that children should learn about respect for others, value the beliefs of others and understand the religions that are followed in the UK and around the world. It is important that children recognise what we have in common with others as well as celebrating differences. You will see from the Curriculum Overview that we use an enquiry based approach, and children are encouraged to ask and answer searching questions about the world.
Our Religious Education curriculum includes a careful balance of learning about religion and learning from religion. Throughout all the teaching and learning of RE, children will be developing positive attitudes in four key areas:
Self-awareness Respect for All Open Mindedness Appreciation and Wonder
Our Cross curricular approach means that religion and faith can be learned in context, for example as part of the India topic children learn about the religions of India and how those religions have travelled around the world and are part of the culture in the UK. Children learning about the community of Shoreham By Sea will visit the churches of St Nicholas and St Mary and see the importance of these buildings, cementing their knowledge of places of worship but also the historic importance of these churches and how they are central to the local community.
Our school welcomes visitors, guest speakers and faith leaders who are able to give the children first hand experience of different religions; we also visit local places of worship. We follow the WEST SUSSEX AGREED SYLLABUS FOR RE.
