Swiss Gardens Primary School

Our School Council

Why Do We Have A School’s Council?

The School’s Council is an ideal way to get involved in the way the school is run. We represent the views of our class and help make decisions that make our school even better.  Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

Who Can Be A Member Of The School’s Council?

We have an active School’s Council with at least one representative from each class. Each councilor is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year after a short presentation explaining why they should be elected. The members then elect a Chair, an Assistant Chair and a Secretary.

What Do We Do?

We meet every term with Mrs Davies and take part in discussions and votes. It is our job to go back to our classes and feedback, sometimes we ask our class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council.

What Have We Done So Far?

We have been busy already this year! We put together a display for the schools Harvest Festival using things each class had been learning about as well as some of the food which had been collected. We have also helped Mr Caughlin choose a new climbing frame for the playground and been a part of fundraising events.

What Have We Got planned For The Future?

We are currently gathering information to help us choose a charity to support. later in the year we will be putting on a evening to raise money for a worth while cause. We will also be working with the garden team who have plans to develop Mary’s Garden.
